Anticoagulation
The following information is intended for healthcare professionals
Heparins for Anticoagulation
Unfractionated heparin (also known as standard heparin) is a well-established
drug that has been used in the hospital setting for many years.
Heparin has the characteristic property of delaying clotting of
the blood and is therefore used as an anticoagulant in the treatment
and prophylaxis of thromboembolic disorders. Heparin is also used
to flush devices such as cannulas and catheters in order to maintain
patency.
Wockhardt UK is one of only two suppliers of unfractionated heparins
to the UK market, with a wide range of injectable presentations including
the following:
Heparin Sodium
- 1,000 I.U./ml 1ml, 5ml, 10ml, 20ml ampoules
and 5ml vials
- 5,000 I.U./ml 1ml, 5ml ampoules and 5ml vials
- 25,000 I.U./ml 0.2ml,

Protamine sulphate is used to counteract the anticoagulant effect
of heparin. Therefore, we offer an injectable presentation of this
product to complement our heparin range.
